Course Description

Learn to safely and effectively administer local anesthesia in a class taught by our supportive Dental Hygiene faculty.

Designed for working dental hygienists that require certification in local anesthesia as a condition of their license, this course provides both didactic and hands-on instruction for the use of local aesthetics by the dental hygienist. Eligible participants must hold a recognized diploma or degree in dental hygiene. Upon successful completion of this program (which will include both written and clinical evaluation) you will be eligible for a change in registration status by the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia. Our goal is that upon successful completion of this course, you will have the confidence and knowledge to safely, effectively and comfortably administer local anesthetics for dental procedures.

This course will be delivered in Victoria, BC over two weekends. You will be given classroom and clinical instruction as well as time to practice the techniques. Participants will both deliver and receive local anesthetics in partners in the clinic sessions. During the clinical practice component (3 weeks between the 2-weekend sessions), you will be expected to practice your technique under the observation of a licensed dentist. Please complete arrangements for your clinical practice component with a licensed dentist.
