Course Description

In order to keep our learners safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, this course is under review for the potential to be run face-to-face following strict measures set in place by Camosun’s Safe Start Program. Please register to secure a place in this course and we will alert you with any changes.

Traffic controllers are responsible for public and construction traffic safety. Learn about the industrial health and safety regulations and safe positions and procedures in this government approved training course. Includes both theory and practical field sessions with practical and written exams. Upon successful completion, a three-year certificate will be issued by the BC Construction Safety Alliance.

Traffic Control Person Training Requirements

Due to COVID-19 regulations, you will need to provide your own personal protective equipment (PPE) and bring to this course. PPE is designed to protect workers from injury or infection. Traffic Control Persons PPE is VERY specific because of working on a roadway.

  • High Visibility Garment (minimum is a vest - background color must be orange or lime green)
  • Safety Headgear - only colors acceptable are listed in the diagram below
  • Wrist and Lower Leg bands 
  • Safety Footwear - CSA approved with 6" ankle support with CSA green triangle tag

Please dress appropriately for working outdoors (rain gear may be needed), and bring a bag lunch as no campus food service available on weekends.

Prerequisites

Minimum age is 16. Physical participation is required, including lifting and carrying equipment and directing traffic. Students must wear CSA approved construction safety boots with a minimum 6” on the ankle (not a shoe or hiking boot), and bring a government issued photo-ID to show to instructor. A valid driver's license is strongly recommended.
