NAUT 620V - Bridge Resource Management (BRM)
Course Description
For Masters, Navigating Officers, & Bridge Watch Keepers. Focus is on the practical skills required to ensure the safety of the ship, its personnel and cargo, and the protection of the environment. Topics include Bridge Resource Management (BRM) concepts; error chain and situational awareness; bridge organization, leadership, and teamwork; Pilot and crew relationship; passage planning, execution, and recording; effective communication skills; and emergency preparedness.
Prerequisites
Certificate of Competency and sea experience.

Captain Ivan Oxford graduated from Memorial University's School of Maritime Studies and is a Master Mariner. Ivan has over 25 years of experience at sea on commercial and government vessels engaged in near-coastal and foreign trade. Ivan has a Provincial Instructor Diploma, and has been teaching at Camosun since 1999 for Camosun's Nautical Department. When on vacation, Ivan continues with his professional development by returning to sea as Shipmaster on commercial vessels.
